3 Reasons Women Lose There Hair After Giving Birth, And How You Can Avoid Or Minimize Hair Loss...

By: Daniel Moser

I will touch base on why women lose there hair after giving birth, These tips may help to minimize postpartum shed and ensure quick regrowth of hair.

First a little background:

Hair grows in three stages, The anagen or the growing stage, the catagen or transition stage and the telogen Stage or the resting stage, when a women becomes pregnant her body automatically will lock all the roots of the hair into the anagen stage, as a result hair will grow faster during pregnancy, your hair may appear thicker especially with women with short hair.

After giving birth the hormones produced by the women, will turn to normal within a relatively short period of time. A greater proportion of hairs then normal will enter the short catogen phase ,then into the telogen phase ( thus the technical name for postpartum shed, telogen effluvium). when hairs enter the telogen phase they will usually last for about 100 days before shedding out. postpartum hair loss can start as earlier as 3-4 months and last for 1 year or more. postpartum hair loss usually returns to pre-pregnancy thickness, even though the feeling of balding may occur, many women generally experience, after having gotten used to the thicker shiner pregnancy hair.

Stress, is also a common hair loss factor to consider, hair loss can occur 3 months after a given stressful situation like child birth.

Minimizing recovery time from postpartum hair loss:

As a result of postpartum shed being governed by hormones that occur naturally, it cannot be completely prevented. However there are some things that you can do to shorten and minimize the the hair loss and ensure quick regrowth.

1. Keep taking prenatal vitamins; many women take prenatal' s whether they are pregnant or not for the benefits to skin, hair and nails. Otherwise, the specific supplements Biotin (Vitamin H), Silica, Calcium and Zinc all help with hair growth and strength. Omegas, found in fish, avocados and nuts or in the dietary supplements Fish Oil and Flaxseed Oil, are also beneficial to hair growth.

2. massage stimulates blood flow to the scalp, which encourages the hair follicles to grow hair. Scalp massage can be done with the fingers, or with a boar bristle brush"however, the latter should only be used on de-tangled hair, otherwise it will rip through tangles and cause more hair loss.

3. Avoid thick creams or hair masques which might clog pores. Use mild rather than harsh shampoos. The new growth may initially appear to be finer than older hairs; this is due to the fact that hairs naturally taper at the ends. Thus, the short regrowth may appear 'baby-fine'. Trimming the new hairs will show that they are, in fact, as thick as the original hairs.
