Education is one of the United Kingdom's biggest industries, bringing in billions of pounds to the economy as well as providing employment for thousands of people up and down the country. The way people are educated has changed a great deal over the past decade, with new technology providing new ways to learn. Some might argue that this new technology has lessened the importance of education textbooks in schools, colleges and universities up and down the country. In this article we'll examine this idea. Education textbooks have been the mainstay of education in the UK for many decades. While classroom teaching is of course invaluable in engaging students and pupils, it is the textbook that provides the framework for all learning. The education textbook can be referred to at any time, either at home or in the educational establishment. This information being in printed form allows people to access facts every quickly. When you compare the textbook to what the computer (that is the internet) offers, it might seem that the book is somewhat at a disadvantage. It is true to say that a piece of printed matter only holds a small amount of information. The internet is the opposite of this, holding unimaginable amounts of information. This sounds good at first, but the internet holds a large amount of unverified or indeed false information that can send those wishing to learn along the wrong track. The fact that almost anyone can create a website and fill it with text, means that internet learning has to be used very carefully. A textbook, o the other hand, has been written specifically for a given target audience (i.e. age group, learning level), and does not contain any false or extraneous information. The internet in itself can be a place where students can be distracted very easily. In summary, the internet offers some fantastic opportunities to people who wish to learn, but great care must be taken to ensure that the information learned is actually correct. Education textbooks provide far more reliability in this area. When all things are considered, it is wise and prudent to combine textbook learning with the internet, as well as other learning methods such as television and film. When you take advantage, in a sensible manner, of all of these possibilities, you give your pupils and students the very best chance of absorbing a good deal of information that will in all likelihood help them pass whatever exams they wish to.
