Save Money on Your Wedding Flowers with These Ideas

By: Art Gib

You can end up spending a considerable chunk of money on the flower decorations for your wedding. Here are some tips that would help save money on the wedding flowers.

1. Choose flowers that are common in the season of your wedding. Avoid using flowers that are not in season and those exotic but expensive flowers. Also, the out of season flowers will be hard to find elsewhere and their rarity will add to the expenses. Moreover, if the flowers of your preference need to be imported, then it can become a much more expensive affair.

2. Decorate with as much greenery as possible. Use greenery such as garlands of ivy and trees to fill up large areas. You can create a dramatic impact with the strategic use of greenery for a relatively smaller amount of money. It is usually possible to rent small trees such as ficus and palms. Eucalyptus leaves and ivy garlands are lovely and can create a breathtaking effect when placed around the edge of the gift table or the cake.

3. Use rose petals for decoration. And you have the option to choose from fresh or silk petals. A random scattering of petals on each table can give a lovely touch of color, and a big mass of rose petals, like, for example, a ring around the base of your cake, can indeed make a dramatic statement! Rose petals are inexpensive and usually come in a variety of color choices.

4. Reuse the ceremony floral arrangement and bouquets at your reception. As you've already paid for them, it would make perfect sense to make full use of them to extract your money's worth. Altar arrangements can be used at the entry to the ballroom or placed on either side of the head table. Bouquets can be used to decorate the head tables, guest book or the cake. Ribbons and floral arrangements which had earlier decorated the aisle can be used for dressing up the cake table.

5. You can consider sharing the church arrangements with any other wedding that may take place at the same day and at the same location as yours. In such a case, you can effect considerable savings if you are able to agree on sharing the altar arrangements, pew bows, and other flowers and have the cost split and shared.

6. You can consider the use of smaller, elegant bouquets rather than having you and your bridesmaids carry large and elaborate bouquets. Obviously a larger bouquet involves more material and time and costs more money.
